Hi friends! Apologies for the delayed release of this week’s episode (it was so cute how many of you noticed & reached out to check in!) I so appreciate your presence here!
The reality is, I’ve been waiting to talk about Jupiter’s entrance into Cancer ALL year, and I wanted to take my time with this one. It’s a transit that holds a great deal of significance to me, in it relationship to ancestral wisdom + our ways of knowing.
In my relationship to Jupiter, I feel the gentle giant’s connection to our ways of knowing that go beyond the intellect. Jupiter represents our relationship to intuitive, experiential wisdom; insight that is gleaned from our lived relationship to the forces of creation. The pulse of Life itself, the dharmic Urge; the Teacher Within All Things.
Jupiter finds its exaltation in the territory of Cancer. Meaning; this is the place where Jupiter’s intuitive, philosophical wisdom finds its most sublime, embodied expression. There are an ABUNDANCE of gifts to be had here; in my opinion, of an Ancestral nature.
Cancer is our Cardinal Water sign; it initiates us into the gift of a life, through the birthing waters themselves. Water carries memory. This is the place of Ancestral inheritance, of Grandmothers + matriarchs, of Wisdom shared in a Relational dynamic. This is the transmission of Guidance shared between the Elder + the Child, through a space of wise, warm council. This is the spirit of the story, speaking through the storyteller, as a relational form of wisdom + guidance for the listener.
Jupiter in Cancer is the Council of Grandmothers sharing the story of centuries, told by the stones and softened by the river. It is knowledge passed through hands and hearts, songs and wombs. It is born of Right Relationship, and the recognition that all beings on this good Earth are memory keepers, ancestors, family members. It is what the wind whispers and the trees remember.
Jupiter in Cancer invites us to consider our ONTOLOGIES, our ways of knowing what we claim to know. Is our only ‘valid’ form of information Empirical data, that can be weighed + measured, that one must be able to see to believe? What about the memory of mushrooms and birdsong? What about the knowledge our people gleaned from being in deep relationship to the world around them? What of those insights born of Land + Sky?
A colonized mind is one that must rely on data + quantifiable facts to consider information as valid. It depends on tangible, material analysis to understand its experience. It has been stripped of relationality to the more-than-human world, and thus justifies the Human Mind as ‘bigger than’ the rest of the world around it. Human supremacy at its finest.
Our inability to recognize the aliveness of (and thus, the opportunity for relationship with) the other-than-human kin around us creates a desensitization to other forms of life we share the landscape with. This desensitization is what allows for the ease of ravaging + destroying the land, ecosystems, and waters we call “home”. This is no way to treat a home, in my humble opinion.
My point being, RECOVERY OF ANIMIST WAYS OF RELATING to Land + place is a direct form of cultural repair work. It functions in opposition to the desensitization that a Human Supremacist conditioning creates in us. It repairs our relationship to the more-than-human kin that we share EVERY landscape with, and creates the conditions to weave ourselves back into Right Relationship with the rest of Life.
My Prayer is that this next year of Jupiter’s movement through Cancer invites a genuine inquiry and recovery of these Ancestral ways of knowing + being in right relationship with the Landscape. It’s about damn time for it. May we Remember what the bones have always known, and the blood has always carried. This is all Birthright.
