Samudra Mathan: Churning of the Ocean of Milk
This powerful myth comes from the Bhagavan Purana, and persists today as one of the most deep, mystical, and powerful stories in Vedic History.
In the depiction above, you can see the Asuras on the left and Devas on the right, holding the head + tail of Vasuki, the great serpent. Wrapped around Mt. Mandra, which is supported by the Turtle’s back (Visnu as Kurma, the great tortoise!) the Asuras + Devas must work together to create the friction needed to produce the Amrita (nectar of immortality) from the Ocean.
